PS5 Says "No Signal"? Here's How to Tell If It's the HDMI Port
Your PS5 powers on, the light comes on, but the TV says "No Signal" or stays black. Sometimes it's a cable or a TV setting. Often, on consoles that have been moved, dropped or had a cable yanked, it's the HDMI port on the console's board.

Below are five quick checks you can do at home, then what to do if the port is the problem.
5 checks before you pay for a repair
- Swap the HDMI cable. Use the cable that came with the PS5 or another known-good high-speed HDMI cable.
- Try another TV input or another TV. Pick the matching input on the TV remote, or test on a different screen.
- Seat the plug fully. Push the cable all the way into the console. If the picture appears only when you hold or wiggle the plug, that points to the port.
- Look into the port with a flashlight. Bent, pushed-in or missing pins, or a port that moves or sits crooked, means physical damage. Stop plugging cables into it; that can make it worse.
- Try Safe Mode's video output option. With the console off, hold the power button until the second beep, connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button, then choose "Change Video Output."
If none of these bring the picture back, or you can see damage in the port, the HDMI port likely needs to be replaced on the board.
Signs it's the HDMI port (not the TV)
- Picture cuts in and out when the cable is touched
- Bent, flattened or missing pins inside the port
- The plug feels loose or won't click in
- The port is cracked, crooked or pushed into the console
- Another console or device works fine on the same TV and cable
How we repair a PS5 HDMI port
The HDMI port is soldered to the PS5's main board. We remove the damaged port, clean the board and pads, solder a new port in place, and test the console on a screen before you pick it up. This is component-level microsoldering work done locally in Latham, so you don't have to ship your console anywhere. See microsoldering and board-level repair.
Not every console is fixable. If the board itself is badly damaged, we'll tell you what we see.
